OZONE

Futurist Market Pack

Role: Sketching, Prototyping, Fabrication

Timeline: Summer 2015

Ozone is a backpack inspired by space travel equipment and optimized for carrying groceries. Fabricating this bag was a chance for me to practice designing and sewing soft goods, and explore a variety of synthetic fabrics.

The exterior of the bag is made using Cuben, which is a semi-translucent weave of polyethylene fibers suspended in mylar. Cuben is 100% waterproof, UV-resistant, extremely light, and very durable, making it perfect for carrying food. The translucency and texture of the fabrics allow them to be layered to create depth.

The pack contains a main zippered insulated pocket for temperature sensitive foods, a smaller frontal pocket with a drawstring closure for produce, and two side pockets for bottles and baguettes. There is also a small pocket for receipts and valuables. Red paracord and stainless steel hardware secure everything into place and reference details from space suits. The bag can be worn as a backpack or as a shoulder bag.
